‘King Of Wands’, Jazz Platyrrhine’s debut studio EP, leads the listener through a wide and complex range of unique styles that speak to hip-hop fans of old and the modern day. Pulling inspiration from Aesop Rock, Earl Sweatshirt, and Common, Jazz immediately strikes the audience with heavy-hitting, articulate, and spiritual lyrics that show his ability to relate to the deepest of human struggles while also teaching how to overcome obstacles throughout the short EP. King Of Wands depicts an individual’s battle between life and death, good and evil.

The album begins with the distinct punch of 90’s kick drums, smooth boom-bap percussion, and simple chord samples that initiates a tarot card tale of discovery and repentance in ‘Tower And The Moon’. ‘Brujo’ catapults the listener into a topsy-turvy world of glitch-laden melodies supported by all the trappings of today's trap music, as well as shamanistic stanzas that invoke the magic and power of our ancestors. As the sun rises from the project’s darkness, ‘Dhyana’ (Sanskrit for “divine meditation”) paints other-wordly pictures of higher dimensions by combining today’s 808-heavy rap sounds with trip-hop concords. Bliss quickly turns to aggression with ‘Cage Of The Beast Coast II’, a sequel to a track from a previous project, outlining a former life of degeneracy and its negative impacts. Lastly, ‘For The People’ takes the final spot on the album as a triumphant “PSA” to those stuck inside their own heads. With ariatic vocal samples and bars marked by dream bells, this track ends ‘King Of Wands’ with intentions of hope and transcendence for all who listen.
